Good storage protects colour, aroma and your investment. Here is how to keep bulk dried blue lotus in shape.

How to store dried blue lotus

Dried Nymphaea caerulea keeps its colour and aroma best when it is kept dry, cool and out of light. Because wholesale orders can sit in a stockroom for weeks, good storage matters as much as good sourcing.

The four rules

  • Keep it dry. Moisture is the main enemy. A starting moisture below about 12% leaves little room for mould.
  • Keep it sealed. Leave the flower in its sealed food-grade bag until you need it, and reseal fully after opening.
  • Keep it dark. Light fades the blue-violet petals. A closed box or cupboard works well.
  • Keep it cool. Avoid heat and big temperature swings that create condensation.

Repacking

If you split a bulk bag into smaller packs, work in a clean, dry space and fill quickly. Use food-grade bags or jars with good seals, and label each pack with the lot reference so you can trace it. Our private label guide covers pack choices.

Signs of trouble

  • Any visible mould or fuzzy spots.
  • A damp, musty or sour smell.
  • Clumps that suggest moisture got in.
  • Colour that has turned dull brown.

Start with a good lot

Storage cannot rescue a damp lot, so check moisture on the certificate of analysis and inspect the flower on arrival. The product page lists pack sizes and specifications.

Quick answers

Questions on this topic

How long does dried blue lotus last?

It varies with moisture, packing and storage. Ask your supplier for a stated best-before and store the flower sealed, cool and dry.

Can I freeze it?

Freezing is not usually needed. Condensation when you open a cold bag can add moisture, so keep it cool and dry instead.

What are signs it has gone bad?

Mould, a damp or musty smell, clumping or heavy colour loss. Do not sell a lot that shows any of these.
